- Use the crankshaft tool to turn the engine clockwise until the crankshaft locking pin can be inserted, check position, fit exhaust camshaft locking tool onto the exhaust camshaft and the inlet camshaft locking tool onto the exhaust camshaft locking tool. If the locking tools sit on the surface of the cylinder head with ease, the timing is correct
